For our recipe of the delicious bolo di cashupete ice cream we cooperated with Princess. You undoubtedly already know them from the well-priced kitchen aids. Princess sells a huge range of beautiful kitchen and household appliances with an excellent ratio between price and quality.
What I personally like best is that they have multiple versions of most devices. One for the small wallet and a more luxurious version, if you are looking for a device that is semi-professional. Likewise with the ice machines…
We were allowed to test two machines for the collaboration, the princess ice cream maker and the Princess ice cream maker deluxe. Both are very suitable for making ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt. The smaller 'ice cream maker' is the entry-level ice cream maker and costs about €40. The 'deluxe' ice cream maker is, as the name suggests, the luxury model and retails for €228.
That's quite a price difference! In this review we explain exactly what that difference is and which machine is best for you when you want to get started making ice cream…
This ice cream maker has a bowl in which you can make up to 1,5 liters of ice cream. That is more than enough for a large family! It has a compact size, so you can easily store it in a kitchen cupboard.
The ice cream maker has an LCD display, with which you can set the time. And not unimportant: the bowl in which the ice cream is made can be cleaned in the dishwasher after use.
You have to freeze the bowl of this ice cream maker yourself. You place it in the freezer for at least 8 hours, so that it is well cold. Then you can place it in the device and make a tub of ice cream in 20-30 minutes.
You can make ice cream, sorbets and frozen yogurt with this appliance, but only once before the bowl needs to be re-frozen. After that, it will lose its cold temperature and you will have to put it in the freezer again for 8 hours. With this device you also have to make sure that the ingredients you use to make ice cream (for example, custard) are well cooled. So it takes a bit more time to prepare ice cream with this.
Although the device does a great job, you cannot 'spontaneously' decide to make ice cream. Because you have to freeze the bowl first, you have to plan that in advance. Also, you can't make two types of ice cream in a row. You need an ice cream maker that can freeze itself.
Then we come to the ice cream maker deluxe. This appliance is a lot bigger and more expensive than the smaller ice cream maker above. That's because this luxury version can freeze itself. So there is a cooling system in the device, with which it can freeze your ice to -35 degrees. This luxury version also has a 2 liter bowl. So more ice!
The ice cream machine has 3 standard programs built in, with which you can make delicious ice cream or sobets. You can also manually set it to a specific time. Finally, this device has another advantage: you can also let it cool or run alone. This is useful if you've already made your ice cream, but want to keep it cold before serving.
Because this ice cream maker has a built-in cooling compressor, it's not necessary for your ingredients to be cooled. You can also make great ice cream with a custard that is at room temperature. That saves time!
Both Princess ice cream makers do exactly what they promise: make tasty and firm ice cream! As far as we are concerned, both devices receive a more than sufficient score.
Then the question remains: which machine should I buy? And to that our answer is as follows:
If you are experiencing want to eat an ice cream every now and then that you have made yourself, the cheaper ice cream maker is the best choice. This costs a lot less than the deluxe version and is easy to store. With this ice cream maker you can make enough ice for a large family. For such a good price, it is a nice addition to the appliances you already have in the kitchen.
You really want to seriously getting started with ice cream? Then the ice cream maker deluxe is the best option. This allows you to make a lot of ice cream, often without having to wait for the bowl to be frozen. The device works slightly faster than the smaller version and can also make ice from ingredients that have not been refrigerated.
