Quick sausage rolls • variation on soseshi den mansa

door Linda Terrizzi

Antillean sausage rolls secretly look a lot like Brabant sausage rolls. We 'hide' a frankfurter in soft and airy bread dough. The bun is then either boiled and baked or fried – depending on who makes it. I personally like the boiled-baked version the most, because in the oven it takes on a nice shiny coating that becomes deliciously chewy.

In this version we make the soseshi den mansa ready-made bread dough from Danerolles. This way, the recipe is ready faster and is also ideal for making with children (on a rainy day). Please note: this is a quick, modified version of the sausage rolls. Are you looking for the original Antillean recipe for the soseshi den mansa? Click here!

You know that: it's raining outside and the kids are bored inside. It is impossible to get them in a pedagogically responsible activity, they argue and the worst… they come every time and ask for a sweet or cookie. Or are only my children like that? Oh no?

On such a day I like to challenge them to make something delicious themselves. This way they are (useful) busy and they know that they have to wait until what they have made is ready. Only at the end you can eat the result. That gives me another hour of breathing space.

Making sausage rolls is then something that is fun, but actually takes too long. Because the bread dough normally has to rise twice for an hour, the fun is quickly over for the children. In the meantime, they continue to be bored and 'don't know what to do'.

Danerolles' dough

A while ago, the team of danerolles me if I could make some recipes with their products. It wasn't until I started looking into their range that I found out that they made more than just croissant dough. Until then I had kind of missed it in the supermarket – oops!

There is also a can with 'petit pain dough' – dough for soft white bread rolls! In principle, you can put them straight from the tin into the oven, but it's more fun to do something with them first. I always like to think that I have added something to a dish, haha.

With this bread dough you can bake the sausage rolls in no time. Now you don't need hours to make them, but only 30 minutes. That's 15 minutes to make and 15 minutes baking time. And during that baking time you can of course drink a cup of tea or something.

The dough is therefore also very suitable for use with children. In fact: it is packaged so conveniently that I put the children to work on this all by myself. Dad didn't help with this recipe (ok, I set the oven). You should see those proud faces when it's done… sausage rolls, well done, all home made. Priceless!

This recipe makes 12 sausage rolls. Do you want more? You can always double!

Preparation of quick sausage rolls

Drain the cocktail sausages and then remove the dough for the petits pains from the packaging. Cut the balls of dough in half and roll out the pieces of dough into a piece of about 3 mm thick.

Then roll each cocktail sausage in one of the pieces of dough. The dough is delicious 'bouncy'', which causes the sides to fill in on themselves right away. So you don't have to fold the sides.

Make sure that the closure of the bun (the seam) is at the bottom. Press it firmly so that the buns do not open during baking.

Now preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper. Then place the buns on the baking tray and brush with the beaten egg. Finally, sprinkle the sausage rolls with sesame seeds and place them in the oven.

Bake the sausage rolls for about 15 minutes until done and golden brown. Enjoy your meal!
