Op Aruba can they make really tasty cakes… these bolo di chateau for example! You make it with layers of sponge cake and chocolate filling. So for the real enthusiast.
Where the name chateau comes from, is left to be guessed. It means 'castle' in French, but this cake is nothing like that. We assume that it is a misinterpretation of 'gateau' (cake), which has stuck.
At least this is Arubaanse delicacy more than worth a try. After baking a fluffy panlefi, cover it with tasty chocolate cream. Everything homemade, of course!
You can make 1 large cake from this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2x the recipe for panlefi
- 100 gr dark chocolate
- 250 ml cream
- 150 gr butter
- 300 gr icing sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cap of vanilla essence
Preparation bolo this chateau:
Make a panlefi 2x as described in our recipe. This sponge cake becomes the basis of the cake.
Melt the chocolate in a bain marie and add the cream. Stir this well. Then let the mixture cool down in the refrigerator.
Then beat the butter with the sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs one by one. Finally add the vanilla essence. Mix this into the chocolate mixture you made earlier.
Now place a layer of panlefi on the bottom of a large bowl. Then spread a layer of the cream over it. Then put another layer of panlefi on top and repeat the process until the cake is finished. You can choose how many layers you make; either you go for 3 thicker layers of cake with a thicker layer of chocolate cream, or you can make thinner layers, so that the cake looks a bit like a bacon cake.
Finish with a layer of chocolate cream and also spread the edges and the top of the bolo di chateau. Finally, cool the cake well! Enjoy your meal!
Tip: You can use the bolo possibly also decorate the chateau with glazed cherries and almonds.
