Balchi di piská (fish balls)

door Linda Terrizzi

Balchi di piská are delicious snacks for people who love fish. The strong taste of the cod is slightly weakened by the potatoes, so that it becomes a friendly dish.

The added vegetables and herbs give this snack a delicious, slightly spicy taste. Really something different than usual. Surprise your guests with this relatively unknown snack. Success guaranteed!

Ingredients

We make these balls with salted fish (cod). In the past, salting fish was used as a way to keep the fish longer. Nowadays we know that in addition to shelf life, it also gives a good load of flavor.

You can therefore still find cod in most toko's. While it used to be an ingredient for poor people, today it may even be slightly more expensive than fresh fish.

In addition to cod, we also use various vegetables and herbs to flavor the fish balls. And in addition to taste, these vegetables also add a little color to the content. Nice and cheerful!

The great thing about these Antillean fish balls is that you can make them well in advance and freeze them. This way you can make a large stock in one go that you only have to bake off later. This is best done in the deep-fat fryer, but you will also get excellent results in the air fryer!
