Caribbean crab burgers

These crab burgers are made from crab meat, sweet potatoes and herbs. Even Sponge Bob would approve of them… they taste best with a sauce and a little hot pepper!

The crab burgers can be eaten as a snack, or (of course) as part of the meal. Either way they are sure to please.



This recipe makes about 6-8 crab burgers, depending on the size.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 can of crab meat (approx. 120 gr)
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
  • 500 gr sweet potatoes
  • 100 gr breadcrumbs
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 sprig of parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 egg
  • 1 / 2 red onion
  • 1 spring onion
  • oil for baking
  • optional: 1/2 Madame Jeanette pepper

Tip: for a low-budget version of these crab burgers you can also use Surimi (imitation crab). This tastes almost the same, but because it is made of fish it is a lot cheaper than real crab.

PREPARATION CARIBBEAN CRAB BURGERS:

  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into large pieces. Then boil the potato pieces in lightly salted water until cooked.
  2. Mash the sweet potato pieces.
  3. Now chop the onion and cut the spring onion into small rings.
  4. Then beat the egg and finely chop the parsley.
  5. Optional: Cut the Madame Jeanette pepper very finely and then add the pepper pieces.
  6. Mix all ingredients except the crab and breadcrumbs in a large bowl.
  7. Finally, carefully add the crab meat, without breaking up the excess.
  8. Let the mixture set in the refrigerator for at least two hours.
  9. Then form balls the size of a golf ball and roll them in the breadcrumbs.
  10. Then press the balls flat to form a kind of burger.
  11. Finally heat a layer of oil in a frying pan and fry the burgers here until they are golden brown on both sides.
  12. Then drain the burgers on kitchen paper and finally serve them with rice or funchi and a tasty salad.
