low-carb cheese balls (low carb)

door Linda Terrizzi

Low-carb cheese balls are a nice variation on the original, Antillean cheese balls. Due to the replacements in the recipe, this snack now fits into a low-carb or low-carb diet.

Disclaimer: This recipe is a VARIATION on it original recipe of cheese balls. So a variation deviates from the original. We know that some people find that very bad and that it counts as “sacrilege” to them. Would you really like to tell us that YOU are one of them and that you think we should absolutely not mess with the original recipe? Don't do it and just click 'just' to the original recipe! Thanks in advance ;)

Low carbohydrate snack

Snacking and dieting… it seems like something that is actually not possible. And yet, even if you are on a diet, you want to eat something tasty every now and then. If only because otherwise you have to isolate yourself at a party.

Among our readers, quite a few people follow a low-carb or low-carb diet. You eat as little sugar and starch as possible. Because the carbohydrates from the food are so limited, fat is less of a problem.

Replacement of ingredients

The original recipe of cheese balls already contains a lot of fat and protein, but also a small portion of carbohydrates in the form of wheat flour. When you can replace that ingredient with something that contains much less carbohydrates, this snack should be able to be 'transformed' into a snack that fits within a low-carb diet.

Jenny's recipe

Fortunately, one of our readers knew what to do! Jenny gave us this recipe for low-carb cheese balls. By replacing the wheat flour with almond flour, these cheese balls add up to 5,4 grams of carbohydrates for the entire recipe. With this recipe, you can make about 12-15 cheese balls.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 135g matured (48+) cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 60 gr almond flour
  • 1/2 sachet (8 gr) of baking powder
  • (sunflower) oil for frying
  • optional: some black pepper / chili flakes for extra spice!

PREPARATION CARBON-FREE CHEESE BALLETS:

  1. Grate the cheese very finely.
  2. Now add the almond flour, baking powder and possibly the pepper or chili flakes to the cheese and stir these ingredients together.
  3. Then add the egg and knead it into a dough.
  4. Now roll about 12-15 balls of the dough.
  5. Then heat the sunflower oil to about 170 degrees.
  6. Finally, fry the cheese balls until they turn golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  7. Drain the cheese balls on kitchen paper and serve them as they are… or with a dipping sauce.
  8. Enjoy!
