You can make these small chocolate cookies in no time with just a few ingredients (which you probably already had in your cupboard!).
Funny 'cracks' form on the cookies during baking due to the composition of the dough. You can accentuate this later with some powdered sugar.
If we're being very precise, we shouldn't really call the cookies 'chocolate'. They lack cocoa butter, which makes the name technically incorrect. Yet these little cookies taste a lot like chocolate because of the large amount of cocoa powder that goes into them. They also color very dark, a bit like the Oreos biscuits!
For an extra dose of chocolate, drink this chocolate milk with peanut at.
With this recipe you make about 72 cookies.
- 200 gr cocoa powder (dark cocoa)
- 400 gr sugar
- 120 ml (sunflower) oil
- 4 eggs
- a cap of vanilla essence
- 450 gr wheat flour
- 1 sachet / 8 grams of baking powder
- a pinch of salt
- 100 gr icing sugar, for decoration
PREPARATION CHOCOLATE COOKIES:
Take a large bowl and mix the cocoa with the sugar and the oil.
Now add the eggs one by one and beat well with a whisk or mixer.
Add the vanilla essence.
Take another bowl and mix in the wheat flour, baking powder and salt.
Combine the contents of both bowls and knead into a smooth dough.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and cool the dough for at least 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees and line the baking sheet with a sheet of parchment paper.
Roll the dough into balls the size of a walnut.
Roll each ball through the powdered sugar and place them on the baking tray with an approx. 2cm gap.
You do not have to press the balls flat. They automatically get a nice biscuit shape by baking.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven. After about 10-12 minutes they are done.
Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack before storing them in a sealed box or biscuit tin.
