Arepa reina pepiada – corn rolls with chicken and avocado

door Linda Terrizzi

The Arepa Reina Pepiada is a cornbread that comes from Venezuela. 'Reina Pepiada' refers to the filling of chicken, avocado and fresh herbs. Reina means 'queen' in Spanish and 'pepiada' is the name given to beautiful ladies in Venezuela.

The name is said to be based on the first Miss World (1955), Susana Duijm. She was not only the first Venezuelan, but even the first 'Latina' to win the title. In honor of her achievement, the bun, with this filling, was named after her. Because 'pepiadas' have beautiful curves, it is of course also the intention that the sandwich is well filled.
