Cocada pretu – coconut candy

door Linda Terrizzi

This 'cocada pretu' is the more tasteful sister of the ordinary cocada. Because we use roasted sugar in this recipe, the taste of cocada pretu is very deep, sweet and bitter at the same time.

You can also buy cocada pretu in small stalls along the road in the Antilles. It is often a welcome change from the other much sweeter candies that are sold.

INGREDIENTS:

The main ingredients of the cocada pretu are of course coconut and sugar. In this case, the sugar is first roasted, which gives it its dark color.

In addition to burnt sugar, Cocada pretu also has cinnamon and cloves to flavor it. This gives it a taste explosion that goes much deeper than just 'sweet'.
