Banana na binja – Plantain with port sauce

Banana na binja is one Arubaans recipe for plantains in a deliciously sweet port sauce. You make this delicious dessert with plantains that are not fried crispy, but are topped with a delicious sauce of brown sugar, port and cinnamon. It makes an ideal dessert and is ready in no time.

Banana na binja is originally one Arubaans dish. We say that there is a big chance that it will appeal to everyone!



* Pay attention: In Papiamentu 'banana' does not mean banana, but plantain. So always use ripe plantains for this recipe… normal bananas would fall apart completely due to the heat.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe plantains
  • 50gr. butter
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons of port
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Banana na binja preparation:

Peel the plantains and cut them in half lengthwise.

Now heat a small pan and melt the sugar, water, port and cinnamon in it.



Then stir well.

Now heat the butter in a frying pan and fry the banana pieces in it until they turn brown.

Then also fry the other side of the bananas.

Finally pour the sauce over the bananas and let it reduce for about 5 minutes on low heat.



Serve hot – Enjoy your meal!
