Buskuchi di manteka – Butter cookies

These delicious, crispy biscuits are of course made with real butter. You can then decorate the butter cookies (sometimes also called sugar cookies!) With icing and colored candies.

They are the simplest cookies you can think of, but no less delicious. It is an ideal recipe to make with children.



The cookies can be stored in a sealed box or drum for up to 10 days.

INGREDIENTS:

For the cookies

  • 175 gr caster sugar
  • 1 packet of vanilla-flavored sugar
  • 200 gr butter
  • 1 egg
  • 400 gr wheat flour
  • pinch of salt

For the icing

  • 400 gr icing sugar
  • 60 ml water *
  • 10 gr protein powder *

* instead of the water and protein powder you can also use 1 to 2 proteins.

PREPARATION BUTTER COOKIES:

  1. Make sure the butter is cooled.
  2. Now mix the sugar with the vanilla sugar and the salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut the butter into cubes and stir it into the sugar with a fork or mixer.
  4. When you have a creamy whole, add the wheat flour and the egg.
  5. Now mix all ingredients into a smooth dough.
  6. Let the dough rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes (covered with a layer of plastic wrap).
  7. Now make the icing by beating the icing sugar with the water and protein powder (or the proteins) until fluffy.
  8. Add more sugar or water as desired to get the right texture.
  9. You can make the icing thinner so that you can coat the cookies – but you can also make it firmer so that you can pipe lines from the icing with a piping bag.
  10. Then roll out the dough to about 5 mm thick and cut out cookies with a cookie cutter.
  11. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (convection oven: 170 degrees).
  13. Bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Let the cookies cool to room temperature and then cover with a layer of icing.
  15. Decorate the cookies with colored candies. - Enjoy your meal!
