You can make this chocolate cake without eggs or dairy. And… also without (strange) substitute ingredients. It's the fluffiest, softest cake you've ever tasted, hands down!
When I make this cake, I always let people taste it before I tell what's in it. If they see the ingredients list in advance, they will never believe that it is tasty. And to be honest, I didn't believe it either before I made the cake for the first time…
This chocolate cake contains a large glass of water! Water!? That can never leak… – sssh! Yes, it is! Promise!
This vegan chocolate cake is sometimes called 'depression cake'. Apparently the recipe was invented during the economic crisis of the 30s. That period was also called 'the great depression' in English.
Many people had no money for expensive ingredients such as eggs and butter, so they baked cake with what they had. Water, for example.
Because the 'expensive' (animal!) ingredients are missing, the cake is also suitable for vegans. Or people who are lactose intolerant, for example. This cake is also not very bad for the line, for example there is 'only' 75 ml of oil on a whole cake.

Preparation of vegan chocolate cake
A child can do the laundry with this cake, because basically you throw everything in a bowl, stir with a spoon and then bake the batter… but in a little more detail:
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees and grease a baking tin with butter, margarine or baking spray
Take a large bowl and mix the dry ingredients in it. So that's the flour, the sugar, the cocoa, the soda, the vanilla sugar and the salt. Stir well together.
Now add the oil, water and vinegar and stir everything into a smooth batter.
Pour the batter into the baking tin and bake the chocolate cake until tender and fluffy for about 30 minutes. With this cake you can rather bake a little too short than a little too long, because it dries out of the oven pretty quickly.
Let the cake cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can also make a nice frosting to put on it. You will find on our site different recipes. Enjoy your meal!
