Crostini with Chicken & Limoncello Sauce

Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur that is delicious to drink on its own. Meanwhile, desserts with limoncello are also quite famous… but a savory dish – that has not been done often before. A nice challenge, we thought. And so we came up with the idea for this tasty, fresh crostini with chicken and limoncello sauce.

By the way, I immediately add: The chicken does not play the leading role in this recipe. You can also easily replace it with cheese (brie or camembert, for example) or shrimp. Even a meat substitute like seitan or Vivera would go well with this. The 'magic' is all in the limoncello sauce!

Limontino from Sardinia Products

You probably remember it from a while ago: we were very impressed by Sardinia Products. This honest liqueur is made there according to a traditional recipe, without the use of colourants, fragrances and flavourings. And count on you to taste it!

Last week I got a call from owner Robertino (that's why the names of all liqueurs also end in –tino!) with the message that the new crop of limoncello was in and that it was even tastier, better, tastier than the previous version. Did I want to taste? Of course we didn't let ourselves be told that twice. And indeed: last time we were sold after one sip and that was the case again with this new version. Love at first sip, really!

We were therefore also happy when we were allowed to develop a recipe for this beautiful product (again). Oh, and not only that: because this time there is also a giveaway for you! So please read on…

Limoncello sauce without alcohol?

Last time we were allowed to develop a recipe for their limoncello-arancello (ie lemon and orange) mix. It was invented in 2020 and therefore got the funny name 'Quarantino'. With this liqueur we made delicious Quarantine cupcakes, with the drink returning in both the cake and the topping. Super tasty, but… not suitable for children.

This is different with these crostini: although a good 150 ml of limoncello goes into the sauce, there is still taste after cooking, but no alcohol. The limoncello sauce is therefore perfectly suitable for children and pregnant women. Or to just take some more of it yourself.

To the recipe…

For this recipe it is best to use a nice, pure bread. A French boulot, for example. Extra points if the bread is made from sourdough. Because while we're working on beautiful products, you can't really afford to come up with a baking pistol ;)

This recipe will make about 12-15 crostini


  • 1 nice loaf of bread, sliced
  • 500 g chicken breast*
  • A pinch of paprika powder
  • Salt and pepper (for the chicken)
  • 100 ml olive oil
  • 150 ml Limoncello
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 el water
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 sprigs finely chopped parsley
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

*You can easily replace the chicken in this recipe with cheese, shrimp or a meat substitute. They all taste great too!

Preparation of crostini with chicken and limoncello sauce

Start by toasting the bread. Brush the bread slices first with a little bit of olive oil. Then toast the bread slices until they are crisp and grill marks appear on them.

Now we move on to the limoncello sauce. To do this, heat 100 ml of olive oil over low heat. Crush the garlic cloves and fry them in the oil for a few minutes. The garlic should not turn brown!

Now add the limoncello and let the sauce reduce for about 10 minutes, until it has reduced by half. Then mix the water with the cornflour and pour a little of this into the sauce. Stir well until the sauce is smooth and the desired thickness. So it may well be that you only need half of the cornmeal paste!

Finally, add the chopped parsley and salt and pepper to taste. Stir the sauce well again.

Finally, we will bake the chicken breast. Because the sauce already has so much flavor, we will not season the chicken too strongly. In this case I stick to some paprika, salt and pepper.

Cut the chicken breast into thin slices and sprinkle with the paprika, salt and pepper. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in the pan and fry the chicken slices in it for a few minutes, until they turn golden brown on both sides.

Top the crostini with some of the chicken breast and finally pour a generous tablespoon of limoncello sauce over it. Enjoy your meal!
