Nasigori – Nasi the way you like Curaçaos

door Linda Terrizzi

Are we going to take the credit for a dish from another country again? Well… nasigori can be bought at almost every snack and in almost every restaurant in the Antilles. Of course it is derived from the Indonesian 'nasi goreng', which literally means 'fried rice'. The Indonesians baked leftover rice from the previous day with spices and vegetables and ate it for breakfast.

Curaçaose nasigori is a bit of an extension of this. We fry rice with soy sauce and trassi.. add meat to it, and if possible we eat it with a portion of fried potatoes.

The name 'nasigori' is much to do with: is it the dish with that name, or do we call the bean sprouts itself 'nasigori'? (Bean sprouts are called 'boonchi di nasigori' in the Antilles, as it is always eaten in this dish!)

Long story short… it's just delicious, and that's what counts!

Ingredients

In addition to (of course!) cooked, white rice, this recipe also includes chicken and small pieces of pork or beef. In addition, the dried shrimps are an indispensable ingredient. You can find these at most toko's and of course in the large Chinese supermarkets.

There is also in the Curaçaose 'nasigori' lots of vegetables. Bean sprouts, leeks, peas… and more! You can of course also give it your own twist and add your favorite vegetable (or where there is just now a leftover). Almost all combinations taste great.
