Antillean cheese balls

door Linda Terrizzi

The Antillean cheese balls are an easy and quick addition to any party buffet. They are made in a jiffy and almost everyone can appreciate them. It is always nice to serve hot snacks at a party and you can make a lot of them very quickly!

Recipe from our book

This recipe can also be found in our cookbook 'The complete Antillean kitchen'. Did you know that there are no less than 300 (!) recipes in that book from the kitchen of Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao?

It is the result of 7 years of research and we now finally dare to say that we have really “captured” Antillean cuisine in its entirety. Click on the image below to learn more about the book:

The recipe for these cheese balls has been one of our most requested recipes for years. And rightly so: the preparation is very simple and the result is always good!

With this recipe you make about 50 cheese balls

INGREDIENTS:

  •  3 eggs
  • 1 sachet of baking powder
  • 500 grams of grated matured cheese
  • 200 grams of flour
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon of salt
  • sunflower oil for frying

PREPARATION OF ANTILLIAN CHEESE BALLETS:

In this video I show you how to make the Antillean cheese balls. Do you prefer to read? The recipe is of course below!

Stir all dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, pepper, salt and cheese) well.

Add the eggs and water to this and then make a dough of the whole.

If the dough is too dry and falls into crumbs, you can add more water.

Then form small balls of the dough, the size of a walnut

Note: the baking powder will cause the dough to expand and the balls will eventually become bigger!

Then heat the sunflower oil to about 180 degrees and finally fry the cheese balls in the oil until they are golden yellow in color.

This doesn't take long (about 2 minutes) so stay tuned!

Then drain the cheese balls on kitchen paper and serve while they are still warm. - Enjoy your meal!
