Stobá di Piska

Stobá di piská is a delicious, Antillean stew with large pieces of fish. The fish is braised in a delicious (and a bit spicy!) Sauce based on various vegetables and herbs.

We make the stobá preferably with the Caribbean red snapper fish, but you can actually use any whitefish for this dish. Other good options include sea bass, cod or pollock.



In the Antilles we really love stews. We therefore have them in all shapes and sizes. In addition to these stobá with fish we also have a stew with kip, beef and one with goat meat. Just what you like best of course!

The stews are usually eaten with a flat cornmeal cake. We call this side dish funchi. Another option is to eat the stew together with rice. With a tasty salad and a few slices of fried plantain, you can finish the entire (Antillean) meal.

Ingredients

In this tasty stobá di piská goes alongside (of course!) fish, including tomato, pepper and stock. It is best to take fish stock for this dish, but if you do not have vegetable or chicken stock, this is a good alternative.

Traditionally, a whole Madame Jeanette pepper also goes through the stew. If you do not like spicy, or if children eat with it, you can also omit this pepper.



You can then serve something pika stir in the stew of those who would like to add a little extra heat to the dish.
